Ways to forget about your ex

If you've watched any television over the years, you've probably seen episodes on many shows about girlfriends helping other girlfriends forget about their exes. In friends, Phoebe had a ceremony where Rachel and Monica brought items from their ex-boyfriends to burn. In Gilmore Girls, Lorelai created boxes of stuff from her exes and kept them in a closet. Who hasn't seen the movie or show where a group of girlfriends decide to take the brokenhearted out to a bar or strip club to forget about their ex?
But in the real world your life isn't resolved in 30 minutes or an hour. How do you forget about your ex? There are many things that you can do, it just depends on the type of person you are. Some people need a day to sulk, eat chocolate and ice cream and wallow. After their allotted amount of self pity time, they have gotten it out of their system and are ready to move on.
Other people don't like to wallow and cry over something that they can't control so instead they exercise. Exercise is a great way to burn calories and relieve stress, so if you are going through a particularly difficult breakup, you may want to go for a jog, find a treadmill or take a kickboxing class where you can envision your ex's head in place of the bag.
Other people may need to seek professional help. If you were in a relationship that you thought was going to result in a family and marriage, then a break up to you is more like a divorce and there is no shame in needing to seek a few sessions of professional help to get you over the feeling of loss in this area of your life.
